President of BPW Turkey - Istanbul Club Hello dear sisters; Just to give you a brief information about myself; I am at BPW since 2009, actually not a very old member of this wonderful organisation. Having born in Istanbul to a very female oriented family, graduated from girls highschool and very problematic women's world in Turkey and holding B.A. in sociology, I was always concerned with women's issues and interested to do something for women. So I met BPW Turkey and wonderful friends. It was my priviledge to meet BPW members from all over the world at the two latest world congresses organised in Helsinki and Jeju. In regard to occupation, I have been active in trade marketing in international small and middle sized companies since 1993 and currently, I am the country manager of a Swiss non-profit organisation "Toothfriendly International" to promote the internationally recognised "Happy Tooth Logo" in Turkey. It is really a nice coinsidence as the origin of this social idea derives from the University of Zurich. This position I am holding is about licensing proven healthy products, marketing and communications. I work with corporates in confectionery plus with the dental profession to promote awareness on dental issues. I am an expert in management, business development with marketing emphasis. I love to develop new things, bring new ideas into realities and create new projects . I am married and have one 12 year old daughter, Defne and I really want her to be an independent and socially active, honest and beloved woman. Therefore, it is crucial for me to be an example to her. I speak German and English and love to travel. I like playing classical guitar, reading, history and politics, tennis and explore new restaurants. Empowerment of women is very important to me and to everyone in many aspects. As a Turkish women and a BPW member, I would like to share with you about the content of WEP, opportunities, challenges and our local experiences. It is also my aim to learn from you by exchanging ideas and answering your questions. WEP is a project and common mission of the UN Global Compact and UN-Women platform. Recent developments show that setting standards in order to empower women in business life which is about Women Empowerment Principle (WEP) gives corporations a framework to design their yearly sustainibility reports, to plan for the fiscal years, to set budgets, and even the job description of their diversity management team in a structured way. It is an awareness programme. "Women issues" are crucial for sustainability of the societies in every aspect and there are still very many things to do. During my presentation, I am going to give you some examples about our efforts as BPW as what we have done in recent two years to increase awareness about WEP, our collaborations and achievements. Since I joined BPW, I tried to organise seminars, congresses and events especially to promote Women Empowerment Principles inTurkey at the Federation level and also at Clubs level. I met many people from companies NGO's and CEO's who care about women. Therefore, because I have been quite spending some time on this issue, I have gathered lot's of information and experience which I want to share with you.
