Pascale Baeriswyl studied in Basel, Geneva and Paris and holds a Master in Private and Public Law (1994) and a Master in History, French Literature and Linguistics (1998), both from the University of Basel. Pascale Baeriswyl worked as a criminal law researcher at Basel University (1995-1997) and for the Swiss National Research Foundation (1996 – 2000). From 1998 – 2000 she served as a judge at the Civil Court of the City of Basel. In 2000, she entered the Swiss Foreign Service and served subsequently in Bern in the Department of International Law (2000/2001), at the Swiss Embassy in Hanoi (2001/2002), in the Human Rights Policy Department in capital (2002 – 2005), at the Swiss Mission to the EU in Brussels (2005 – 2008) and at the Swiss Mission to the United Nations in New York (2008 – 2013).She was appointed Ambassador by the Swiss government in 2013 and is currently Vice-Director at the Department of International Law in Berne. In this position she is in charge of the Task Force on Asset Recovery as well as the Public International Law and the Treaty sections. Main topics are bilateral or multilateral asset recovery policy issues, Swiss neutrality, the depositary State responsibilities and – more generally - all aspects of public international law, for example regarding the UN Charter or Swiss negotiations with the EU.
