As a female leader in big tech companies, I have been involved in diversity activities and programs to support female advancement for a very long time. In 2010, after a 20-year career in communications and brand management, I decided to make diversity and inclusion (D&I) my full time career and became the Global Head of D&I for Philips in Amsterdam. In 2015, I stepped down to start my own consultancy and I am now supporting organizations to build and sharpen their D&I strategy and implement targeted activities to drive change.
I regularly speak on Diversity and Inclusion at conferences globally. Lately, one of my focus areas has been (company internal) women networks, based on a global research project I have conducted with a friend and colleague, Lisa Kepinski of Inclusion Institute.
The survey, based on a comprehensive online questionnaire with over 1.700 participants from around the world, explored participants’ expectations towards and experience with their networks and the key factors contributing to a network’s success.
